A Herbal Treatment Protocol for Molluscum Contagiosum

While my practice primarily supports women through preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum, I also care for the little ones who come along with that journey. One condition I see regularly in preschool-aged children is molluscum contagiosum - those small, persistent bumps that can hang around for months (or even years) if left untreated.
Molluscum is a viral skin infection that's incredibly common in young children, spread easily through skin contact and shared surfaces. While it's generally harmless and will eventually resolve on its own, it can be uncomfortable, prone to spreading, and understandably concerning for parents.
I've developed a herbal treatment protocol for molluscum contagiosum that combines homeopathic and herbal medicine to support the body's natural resolution of the virus, and I've seen beautiful results.
The Protocol
My approach includes four key elements:
Homeopathic Thuja pillules - taken once daily to support the body's response to the viral infection from the inside out
Herbal bath soak - used morning and night to create an environment on the skin that discourages viral replication while soothing any irritation
Thuja ointment - applied after bathing (when the skin is soft and receptive) to work directly on the lesions
Custom herbal salve - made in clinic and applied up to three times daily for ongoing topical support
The routine is straightforward: a dose of Thuja in the morning, followed by an herbal bath. While the skin is still soft from the bath, apply the Thuja ointment to the affected areas. Throughout the day, apply the herbal salve up to three times. The evening bath follows the same pattern.
Molluscum requires patience - it's not an overnight fix. But this gentle, consistent approach supports the body's own healing capacity while minimising the risk of scarring that can occur with more aggressive treatments like curettage or cryotherapy.
For more persistent cases, it's important to look beyond topical treatment and consider the bigger picture. Gut health plays a crucial role in immune function, so I often assess and support digestive health through probiotics, dietary adjustments, and herbal medicines. Vitamin C, zinc, and other immune-supporting nutrients may also be indicated depending on the child's individual needs.
A child who's struggling to clear molluscum may be telling us something about their overall immune resilience, and addressing this foundation can make all the difference.
If your child is struggling with molluscum, I'd be happy to work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. Book a discovery call here and lets chat about how I can support you and your child.
