Second Trimester Fatigue - Why You Might Suddenly Feel Worse Around 18-24 Weeks Pregnant

Second trimester fatigue isn't always as simple as "just pregnancy" - changing nutritional demands may play a role for some women.

Many women expect the second trimester to feel like the "easy" part of pregnancy.

You've likely heard people talk about the energy returning, nausea easing, and finally starting to feel more like yourself again.

So it can feel confusing when somewhere around 18 to 24 weeks, you suddenly feel awful again.

You were feeling okay.

Then suddenly you're exhausted.

You're crying more easily.

Your mood feels flat or more anxious.

Your brain feels foggy.

You have headaches, or perhaps some of those first trimester feelings seem to be creeping back in.

And often women are simply told:

"That's pregnancy."

Sometimes it is.

But sometimes there are other factors worth exploring too.

As pregnancy progresses, your body's nutritional demands continue to increase. Your growing baby, placenta, expanding blood volume, and changing maternal needs all require nutrients to support these processes.

For some women, if nutritional reserves were already lower before pregnancy, or if nausea, food aversions, or dietary limitations have made eating difficult, this increased demand may start to feel more noticeable around this stage.

Nutrients involved in energy production and nervous system function - including B vitamins, iron, zinc and others - may be worth considering as part of a bigger picture.

This doesn't mean every woman between 18 and 24 weeks needs supplements.

And it doesn't mean symptoms automatically point to one deficiency.

But it does mean feeling persistently unwell deserves curiosity rather than dismissal.

You deserve more than being told to simply push through.

One of the things I love about supporting women through pregnancy is helping them look at the whole picture - nutrition, lifestyle, symptoms, and what their body might be asking for.

If you're experiencing second trimester fatigue and feeling unlike yourself, I'd love to support you.
